W Family at Makapu’u Baby Beach Tidepools – Oahu Family Photographer, Sharleen Mey Photography
The session that started it all! Seriously. Without this family, I might’ve never found this little gem of an area. C (Mom) contacted me on short-notice looking for a photographer for a family session before L (Dad) had to temporarily leave the island due to work. I happened to have that Friday open and was really excited to hear about a favorite beach of theirs full of little tidepools and the most perfect spot for children–even when it’s high tide. There are a lot of names for this beach, but it’s more commonly known as Makapu’u Tidepools but not to be confused with the hike to the tidepools over at the Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail. The mountains, ocean, and rocks make for a stunning landscape for all types of sessions.
I also have to give huge props to C who was able to arrange not one, but a few different outfit choices for her family’s session in about 36 hours! Every coordinated outfit looked great with the landscape that evening. The boys were so fun and in their own little world exploring the crevices in the rocks and pushing sand around while Mom and Dad snuck away for a few couple’s portraits to add to the gallery. I made sure to include Rabbit Island in the background since the W family will be moving off Oahu soon and want to be able to remember all the areas surrounding their favorite family beach.
Thanks C for telling me all about Makapu’u and I hope you and your family have an amazing experience at your new duty station!
