Before & After, Rainy Days | Child Photographer in Honolulu
Well, since those of us here in Hawaii are getting rained (more like a downpour) on due to a tropical depression in the pacific, I thought, “Hey, wouldn’t it be great to re-edit an image taken in the rain?” I am loving the rain so far, because it’s usually drier here in Honolulu and it’s a great change of scenery (plus, I don’t have to water my grass haha).
To me, this image started off pretty “dull” due to the overcast and rainy skies, so I just wanted to liven things up. I specifically chose a longer focal length because I wanted to let them explore along with compressing the background to isolate the raindrops. Let’s start!
SOOC: ISO100 f/2.0 1/500 on the 135L
Step 2: I applied some adjustments in the Basic panel to bring out the colors. I added a midtones bump in the Tone Curve panel to brighten the image overall.
Step 2a: Continued down to the HSL panel where I livened up the background by removing most of the yellows.
Step 3: I thought the image could use a little more brightening (check the Histogram) so I upped exposure by +0.30. Then I added a vignette and there’s a little trick to see what you’re doing by holding down the ALT key while adjusting the Feather slider.
Step 3b: See how the vignette gives the image a little more depth?
Step 3c: I lowered the exposure on the area to the right of the girl to keep the eyes drawn to the children. After that, sharpen!
I hope you enjoyed that. Feel free to leave any remarks or questions in the comments area.
